I started Ryzein because I love the intersection of technology and creative expression. Just as an artist chooses the paints, brushes, and palette that work for them, the right cameras, lenses, lights, and audio equipment let me bring my films to life.
There are no second takes at a wedding, no “let's run that again.” That is what makes the tools I use so important. I take pride in the cutting edge systems I've developed: they make your vows sound as heartfelt as the day they were spoken, they capture your loved ones' every expression as the doors open, and they are fortified against the chaos and unpredictability of the day. You'd be surprised how common a poorly timed sneeze, an echoing great hall, or an energetic child's antics can be.
I call these systems All Encompassing Audio and Full Coverage Video. Without getting into the technical detail, they are comprised of the finest paints, brushes, and palettes I've curated over the years, and they allow your wedding day to be brought to life in exquisite detail, and without interruption.
I learned this craft on weddings most people only read about.
Before Ryzein, I trained under Alexander Ma, one of the most respected wedding filmmakers in the field. Learning from him meant holding myself to a standard with no room for “good enough,” on days where the stakes could not have been higher.
There is exactly one chance to get it right.
One of those days was the wedding of country superstar Luke Combs. Being on a shoot at that level taught me something no classroom could: how to stay calm, invisible, and completely dialed in while a moment you only get once unfolds. I bring that same composure to every wedding I film, whether it's three hundred guests in a ballroom or twelve people in a intimate garden ceremony.
A wedding film is an art. I treat it like a science, too.
I earned my bachelor's in economics, with a specialization in data science, at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Perhaps like you, I often wonder whether the degree was worthwhile. I can point to plenty of skills I acquired through the sleepless nights and difficult exams, but when I think about what I truly took away from those years, I always conclude that the people they brought into my life are what made them worthwhile.
I got to film alongside cinematographers like Ian Tunney and Samuel Li, producing spec projects (films made with no paying client, so filmmakers can practice their craft) that brought together large teams of talented people, and to build competition drones with Badgerfly, a group of engineers I learned so much from. Together, we took second in accuracy in 2024 at the Vertical Flight Society's national design and build competition.
These two endeavors, filmmaking and engineering, may seem incongruent, but I've never seen the two worlds as opposites. The rigor of data science and engineering, contrasted against the freewheeling, exploratory nature of cinematography, turns out to be exactly the toolkit an artist needs to experiment at the edge of what's possible.
Drones remain a source of inspiration for me. In my free time, I enjoy experimenting with open source software that conducts orchestras of drones in elaborate light shows. The technology behind preprogrammed shows is well studied and mature; the most interesting research, from an entertainment perspective, is commanding those swarms in real time. SPARKED, a collaboration between ETH Zurich, Verity Studios, and Cirque du Soleil, demonstrates the idea, and Fan Shisan is a prime example of artistic expression and engineering prowess melded together. Where the art and the science meet, engineering in service of a feeling, is where I always want to live. That is the reason every advanced tool I own is included in each package I offer. I include them because I genuinely love using them, and because pushing myself with new and exciting technology is the whole reason I started Ryzein in the first place.
What all that gear is really for.
As I've said, technology is a big part of what drives me to create. However, I believe technology applied overzealously can lead to adverse outcomes. At the core of all innovation is the opportunity to improve people's lives. For wedding filmmaking, this means always keeping you at the center of the equation: your vows, the venue, and above all else the expression of your vision for your wedding. The result is a film you can return to again and again, like the movie you put on when you've had a really good day, or a really hard one.
